Southwest Colorado wildfires continue to grow, Stirs Up More Evacuations




Authorities ordered the evacuation of hundreds of residences in southwest Colorado. The wildfire has started on Friday, June 8, in southwestern Colorado had grown by Saturday morning.

Officials in southwest Colorado has directed the evacuations of another 300 families on Friday, June 8, to allow firefighters to attack an advancing wing of a wildfire that blazed miles of harsh countryside, but had yet to harm or ruin any structures.

La Plata County authorities’ latest instruction follows the evacuation of more than 1,000 residences earlier along U.S. Highway 550, a main route connecting the urban areas including Durango and Silverton, roughly 135 miles northwest of the Four Corners Monument that links Colorado with Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.

The wildfire first emerged in June 1 in San Juan National Forest area. It comes as critical dry spell is enthralling the American Southwest, most especially the region where Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado link up.
